Baptised and Sent

By Sr Elizabeth Magwenzi L.C.B.L
During the Angelus Prayer on World Mission Sunday, October 22, 2017, Pope Francis publicly announced to the whole Church his intention to designate an Extraordinary Missionary Month for October 2019 (EMM OCT 2019) to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Pope Benedict XV’s Apostolic Letter Maximum Illud, with the theme Baptised and Sent. Social Communications Chinhoyi’s Sr Elizabeth Magwenzi L.C.B.L had an interview with Fr Travis Moyo and discussed on the theme.

To The Youths
Fr Moyo called all youths to hearken to the call of the Synod, “young people we love you.” The youths should be assured of that love in the church. My message to the youths is, “the time for you is now. Wake up the Church. They do not belong to the Church of the future but the present church. They need to rise and take responsibility for their faith. The fact that they are baptised means they have a place in the Church and its mission. Youth were challenged to find a way of discovering their vocation in the church. What is it that they can do for the Church?
Practically, youths should use well the social media as an avenue of evangelization and that way they would be changing and impact on society and peers particularly as they are mostly on social media. Not only that, Fr Moyo challenged youths to organise themselves and be more visible within the church structure and start playing their role, be it in liturgy. Then they begin to influence the structure and steer the direction towards the church of tomorrow.

To The Church In Chinhoyi And At Large
Do not be afraid of the young ones. Give them a chance. Harness their talents and skills, incorporate them in committees and use them in the dissemination of information using technology. You will learn a lot from them if you embrace the youth.
